Year 9s Grotesque Gargoyles!

Gargoyle - a grotesque carved human or animal face or figure projecting from the gutter of a building.

In their Art lessons, two Year 9 classes have been learning about the mysterious world of ‘Gargoyles’. Beginning with an investigation into the meaning, function and purpose of Gargoyles, students went on to develop original designs, sculpt in clay and finally decorate their own Gargoyle-inspired mask. They had to think carefully about what makes a successful Gargoyle before using a range of pottery techniques to sculpt their own individual designs. Over the Summer break the Gargoyles will be put up on display in school - hopefully they won’t give you too much of a fright when you return in August!
