For August 2018, Bangkok Patana School seeks an enthusiastic, caring and experienced Spanish and French teacher to teach across the secondary school age range. Experience of successfully teaching Spanish to IGCSE and IB level is beneficial and French to IGCSE highly desirable. The willingness to be an effective team player and work closely with parents is essential.

All Secondary School teachers work as tutors or support tutors and subject teachers. (Follow the hyperlinks to see the separate job descriptions)

The subject teacher has a vital role to play in the development of the students in a particular subject or subjects. The subject teacher will work in a team alongside the Key Stage Leaders, and the Head of Faculty to plan and teach in their specialist area/s in accordance with the agreed schemes of work and assessment policies for that faculty. They will work to ensure that an environment is created in which students will achieve the highest academic standards.

The tutor has a vital role to play in the development of the students in her/his care. S/he is the first point of contact and as such must assume responsibility for the immediate pastoral/academic concerns of her/his students. The tutor’s own classroom practice will always exemplify the approaches, philosophies and expectations set out in the school’s policy documents. Tutors work in a team alongside the Head of Year and other tutors and, as such, must be effective team members helping to develop a positive team spirit within the Year group.

The Extra-Curricular Programme is considered a vital and integral component in the education of our student community. Therefore, applications are particularly welcome from teachers with experience, passion and talent in the areas of visual and performing arts, community service, debate, outward-bound activities and sports.

Bangkok Patana is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of its students and expects all staff to share the same commitment. Extensive checks (DBS if UK based) and references will form part of the application process.

World Languages

Mission

Cross Campus:

Our mission is to ensure that students will

  • understand and respect the culture of the country whose language they are studying and thus gain a more international perspective of life;
  • be given the opportunity to learn a foreign language to the best of their ability;
  • develop an enthusiasm for language learning that will remain with them throughout life.

Primary World Languages:

Through an interactive approach, we aim to develop

  • children's awareness of cultural differences;
  • basic communicative skills.

Secondary World Languges:

Our mission is to ensure that students will develop an understanding of and an ability to communicate in a foreign language in line with ability and experience.

The World Languages Faculty comprises of thirteen members of staff. The Head of Faculty's responsibilities are clearly defined as being in overall charge of the Faculty and is supported in the leadership by two coordinators.

Patana begins the teaching of World Languages in the Primary School with a specially designed carousel programme in Year 3 from which the students go on to choose a World Language to study form Year 4 - Year 6. Students continue the same language into the Secondary School where they take up an additional language in Year 7. French, German, Mandarin, Japanese, Spanish and Thai are taught. All Secondary School World Languages teachers teach from Key Stage 3 to IB.

The Faculty, in line with the rest of the School, uses the English National Curriculum at Key Stage 3. In Key Stage 4, students study for the (I)GCSE examination. At Senior Studies level, students take the International Baccalaureate courses where they can continue with the language studied at (I)GCSE, or may start a new language at Ab Initio level, or may study a home language Language A, leading to the bi-lingual diploma, either as a taught course or school supported self-taught course. The school responds to the demands of the students, wherever possible, and these courses can be offered in all languages.

The Faculty is housed in a new, purpose designed area, with a well-used break out area, library and small meeting room, and each language classroom is fully equipped with an interactive white board and audio equipment.

Language students are grouped in mixed ability classes.

The World Languages Faculty is led by a Head of Faculty and three curriculum co-ordinators, Spanish, French/ German and Asian Languages.
