Student safeguarding and safe recruitment
Bangkok Patana School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of its students and expects all staff to share the same commitment.
As part of the recruitment process applicants must provide:
- The name and contact details of three referees. One referee should be the applicant's current or most recent employer. In addition to the written references, referees may be contacted to obtain a verbal reference.
- An up-to-date DBS Disclosure if from UK or police check.
- Documentation from universities and colleges verifying attendance and successful completion of courses undertaken.
- An up-to-date medical.
For August 2017, Bangkok Patana School seeks a successful Secondary Drama Teacher who is committed to achieving high academic standards and creating a stimulating and positive classroom ethos, which is both child-centred and success orientated. In addition, the willingness to be an effective team player and work closely with parents is essential.
The Extra-Curricular Programme is considered a vital and integral component in the education of our student community. Therefore, applications are particularly welcome from teachers with experience, passion and talent in the areas of visual and performing arts, community service, debate, outward-bound activities and sports.
The tutor has a vital role to play in the development of the students in her/his care. S/he is the first point of contact and as such must assume responsibility for the immediate pastoral/academic concerns of her/his students. The tutor's own classroom practice will always exemplify the approaches, philosophies and expectations set out in the school's policy documents. Tutors work in a team alongside the Head of Year and other tutors and as such must be effective team member helping to develop a positive team spirit within the Year group.
The subject teacher has a vital role to play in the development of the students in a particular subject or subjects. All subject teachers work as tutors or support particular pastoral programmes for different Year groups. The subject teacher will work in a team alongside the Key Stage Leaders, and the Head of Faculty to plan and teach in their specialist area/s in accordance with the agreed schemes of work and assessment policies for that faculty. They will work to ensure that an environment is created in which students will achieve the highest academic standards.
The Arts Faculty
The Arts programme at Bangkok Patana School is designed to provide a welcoming, energetic and enthusiastic learning environment within which skills, confidence, creativity and joy in the creative process are nurtured.
Bangkok Patana School places high value on the arts as integral to and necessary for a broad and balanced curriculum. The programme includes differentiated arts experiences, with numerous extension opportunities for students to pursue their interests and develop skills at a high standard.
The Arts Faculty seeks dedicated, caring teachers who are able to inspire students in the pursuit of excellence. Currently, the Faculty consists of 11 Drama, Music and Art teachers. Each department has a Curriculum leader who is responsible for the day-to-day management of curriculum and instruction. The three departments run somewhat independently but are linked by a Head of Faculty for the Arts. The Head of Faculty has a key middle leadership role within the school, line managing the Curriculum leaders, leading arts initiatives and arts involvement in secondary school developments, and coordinating the use of the Arts Centre in this very important area of the school.
Detailed descriptions of the Arts curriculum can be found in the curriculum guides, available online through the Patana website here. In addition to the normal teaching expectations, active involvement in the Extra Curricular Programme (ECA) is an expectation for all Arts teachers. Each year, the Patana calendar is filled with art exhibits, drama and music performances, preparations for which normally occur during the ECA time. All three departments collaborate to produce a musical every two years.
The Patana Arts Centre truly is a point of pride for the school, providing purpose-built performance and teaching spaces to optimise student learning in the arts. The generosity of space offered by the Centre allows us to host international school festivals and workshops. Patana students also have regular opportunities to participate in off-campus trips through which they can meet other students, see new places and enrich their learning.
